Google was developed in March of 1998. It was created as a research project at Stanford by Larry Page and Sergey Brin. They set up Google as a pop-up free advertising funded search engine. Google makes most of it's money off of advertisements. People pay Google to display their company's add on their search engine. The Co-founder Andy Bechtolsheim wrote a check for $100,000 to the search engine project and if he didn't Google probably would not exist today.
Google first went public on August 19, 2004 on the NASDAQ stock exchange. At first, their stocks went for $85 per share. They maxed out at $714.87 per share on December 3, 2007. Currently, on January 26, 2012, it is priced at $569.49 per share.
When Google went public, Larry Page and Sergy Brin had to debate whether to hand over their control over Google. They decided to make Larry Page, one of the creators of Google CEO. He is still CEO to this day.
On April Fools' Day in 2004, Google created Gmail. Their approach to email was to include features like speedy search, huge amounts of storage and threaded messages. At the start of the beta, it was only for opinion leaders or Google employees and people they invited. Google ended this beta phase and was available to the public on July 7, 2009.
Android is one of the leading smart phone operating systems.The first Android phone Google created was called the Gphone. Google purchased Android in 2007.
